Restaurant Review: Hanai Family Table

When I heard of Hanai Family Table, I was excited to see a truly Hawaiian experience in Vancouver. Born and raised in Oahu, Tess and Tom have brought their favourites growing up to the Vancouver scene.

Currently, they offer three items on their menu: Fried Okinawan Sweet Potato Mochi, Spam Musubi and Vegan Spam Musubi, but they are in the process of expanding their menu.

I ordered the Fried Okinawan Sweet Potato Mochi and Spam Musubi.

The Fried Okinawan Sweet Potato Mochi is deliciously indulgent. It’s highly crispy on the outside and nice and chewy on the inside. The sweet potato flavour is enhanced with coconut milk.

This entire box was demolished by me – very ‘Ono!

The Spam Musubi is a staple you’ll find in corner stores in Hawaii – but this is no ordinary musubi. This one’s packed with flavour and beautifully created. Each slice of spam has a shoyu ginger glaze sitting atop rice mixed with furikake and wrapped in crunchy nori. The salty notes from the spam is balanced with the delicious glaze and furikake.

Hanai Family Table delivers straight to your door, or you may pick up at the industrial kitchen they work out from or meet them at your local farmer’s market. You can order online on their website: https://www.hanaifamilytable.com/

I cannot wait to see what else they have in store for us, in the meantime I’ll be placing more orders whenever I miss the sunshine.
