New to Canada? Don’t miss the Canadian Immigrant Fair on April 26

More than 300,000 immigrants and refugees come to Canada each year, many with top credentials in their professional fields.

Many more thousands come on temporary work permits in hopes of staying permanently one day. Some may be fleeing war, while others are seeking new opportunities and a better life.

But they all have one thing in common: they need information and guidance after they arrive to help them in their immigration journey. That’s where the Canadian Immigrant Fair comes in.

On April 26, 2018, the free fair comes to the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown in Burnaby, B.C. This tradeshow and speakers’ series for newcomers is all about providing the information and inspiration people need as they look for jobs, go back to school and settle into their new home.

In Metro Vancouver, 30,000 immigrants landed in 2017, with another 3,300 in the first quarter of 2018 alone, according to data from Immigrant, Refugees, Citizenship Canada.

The free fair, hosted by Canadian Immigrant magazine, will feature a tradeshow of diverse exhibitors, including career advisors, education institutes and social service agencies, plus hiring companies. If you want a more professional headshot for your social media presence, the fair’s associate sponsor Public Mobile will be offering a professional photo booth to take your photo onsite.

The event’s popular speakers’ series includes a workshop on banking in Canada by platinum sponsor National Bank, an English pronunciation class by Catherine Steele to help you take your career to the next level, an interview skills workshop, a small business session by local entrepreneur and RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Trish Mandewo, plus a multicultural women’s Q & A dialogue panel.

Temporary residents and students can seek advice on immigration from the Express Entry and CELPIP English test workshops.

“Immigrants are coming to Canada, and it’s our responsibility to welcome them, and help them settle in and integrate into this great country. Through the Canadian Immigrant Fair, we offer information on the three pillars of success for immigrating to Canada: careers, education and settlement,” says Sanjay Agnihotri, group publisher of Canadian Immigrant, a national magazine, website and events producer that has been a guiding star for newcomers since 2004.

After the April 26 Burnaby event, the Canadian Immigrant Fair will be held in 7 other cities throughout 2018.

Register for the fair online at www.canadianimmigrant.ca/careerfair before April 26 for a chance to win a free talk and text plan for one full year from Public Mobile.
