MY WORK
Hours worked per week: 37.5
Years at this position:
9 months in current role, over 5 years in Commercial Banking
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is that I learn something new every day. I work with a diverse team of talented professionals across business lines and industries, all of whom bring something unique to the table and never cease to amaze me.
What are some of the challenges you’re currently facing at work?
I think the biggest challenge is driven by the external environment. Regulatory developments, compliance requirements and capital allocation, though big picture, also trickles down to each commercial credit deal that we structure. Our team is more cognizant of the fact that local deals are now competing with international deals for capital. It puts into perspective how interconnected the global market really is.
How is this position different from other jobs you’ve had?
I perform in-depth analysis of a company’s finances, management and business model, focusing on the underwriting of complex financing arrangements for large corporations with financing needs ranging from $10 million to over $90 million. Together with my deal team, our goal is to tailor a credit solution that successfully meets a (potential) customer’s needs.
MY EDUCATION
Degree(s) & Institution:
Bachelor of Business Administration degree specializing in Finance from the University of Toronto, and a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation.
Why did you choose to pursue a CMA?
The versatility of the CMA designation is what interested me the most about the program. I wanted to not only develop a strong technical foundation, but also build the soft-skills that are essential in today’s workplace. By integrating a strategic focus with leadership training, this multi-dimensional program achieved that for me.
When did you complete your CMA program? 2010
