The current reigning Miss BC 2011 Tara Teng, was crowned last Saturday night in Montreal as Miss Canada 2011.
For her, this is more than just a beauty pageant. It’s a platform for her to speak out on human rights issues that she feels passionately about.
A Fort Langley resident and Trinity Western University student, Teng has already accomplished a lot with her Miss BC title, including meeting Prime Minister Stephen Harper to discuss human trafficking and organizing the upcoming Freedom Week event (March 6 – 13) to bring awareness and change to these social issues.
The Miss Canada pageant was held on January 29th in Montreal. The Miss Canada pageant is the longest running pageant in Canadian history (since 1946).
Tara’s win makes her the first Miss Canada to come from British Columbia since 1992. Her success is due in part to her participation in the annual Miss BC pageant, which takes place every summer in Fort Langley. Applications for Miss BC are currently being accepted at missbc.ca
“I am so excited for this new opportunity ahead of me!” Teng exclaims. “Not only do I have the honour and privilege of representing my beautiful home of Canada to the world- I now have a larger platform to speak from. My goal as Miss Canada is unchanging from my mission as Miss British Columbia.”
