I’ve been with Deloitte for 4.5 year and was recently promoted to Manager.

What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is working with a diverse group of professionals for a diverse group of clients.  Tax is forever changing and I really enjoy  that the learning never ends.  Every day you see a unique issue and face new challenges.

What are some of the challenges you’re currently facing at work?
As previously mentioned, US tax laws are continuously changing; consequently in order to provide my clients with services that meet their needs it is imperative that I keep up to speed with the latest tax changes.

How is this position different from other jobs you’ve had?
This position is different from other jobs as it gives me insight into many different industries.  Having a diverse group of clients provides me with exposure to different businesses.  Working for Deloitte, has given me the ability to learn and share my knowledge with other professionals.

MY EDUCATION

Degree(s) & Institution (s):
Bachelor of Commerce degree specializing in accounting and economics from the University of Northern BC in Prince George, B.C. and a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation.
I am also finishing  my final class for my Masters of Science in (US) Taxation from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California, USA.

Why did you choose to pursue a CMA?
I chose to pursue the CMA designation as the CMA Strategic Leadership Program™ focused on strategic management, and allowed me to develop my  multi-tasking skills while learning and growing from the case analysis discussions we covered for  all kinds of situations.
The program allowed me to gain the leadership and managerial skills to compliment my financial and accounting knowledge.  The designation has helped me take a strategic approach to new challenges both within and outside the firm and public practice. 
I strongly believe that the CMA designation and hard work has and will lead to my future success!

Golf

Upcoming vacation plans:
The year ahead looks great - Spain, Italy, and London are some of the hot spots I plan to visit.  Not to mention San Francisco to attend my graduation ceremony for my Masters of Science in Taxation.
 
Community involvement:
Most of my community involvement is through Deloitte. My firm is very active in the community and has held many fundraising events which I have been a part of.  Additionally, I am an active participant of our firm’s annual Impact Day which focuses on making a difference in our communities.

MY FUTURE

In five years, I see myself (both professionally and personally):
I see myself continuing to pursue my career in US tax.  My goal is to work toward senior management, while building on my current education through professional development.  Sarb S. Dhaliwal, CMA
