VCC students shine at Montreal Fashion Week

Vancouver Community College student Nicole Obidowski placed second in the national Telio competition at Montreal Fashion Week.
Obidowski and fellow student Leah Mosoff were two of 25 finalists chosen from 400 entries to the popular competition.
Telio, a Quebec-based textile company, invited 20 Canadian fashion design schools to submit a design of a uniquely modern, timeless and authentic creation that could be called “Art-a-porter.”
Obidowski, 26-year-old East Vancouver resident, designed a dress and accompanying coat. Her design hit the mark and won her a $2,500 scholarship as well as a pass to New York Fashion Week and a feature in Z!NK magazine’s summer 2010 fashion editorial.
“VCC has been a very well-rounded program, and many of the instructors are really amazing,” says Obidowski.
Obidowski’s design is displayed over a breathable knit dress to form an angular, futuristic pattern and cocooned in a large coat.
Mosoff’s  design takes inspiration from both fashion and art history pairing a modern silhouette with handcrafted detailing of pleats, pom poms and scallops. The result is a unique, authentic design.
