Rev up for the Vancouver Auto Show


Auto enthusiasts are in for a major treat this week and can shift their imagination into overdrive at Western Canada’s largest auto event, the 2009 Vancouver International Auto Show, at BC Place Stadium. In addition to exciting activities for all ages to enjoy, there are hundreds of new makes and models from the world’s top manufacturers. Here are the top 10 vehicles you won’t want to miss at the show:

 








1) Scion Fuse


A lifestyle brand on wheels, Scion is set to hit Canada in 2010. Its Fuse concept vehicle pushes the limits of the coupe concept and combines entertainment, digital technology and versatility into one sinister-looking package.


2) Dodge Circuit EV


An all-electric performance sports car that boasts a driving range of 241-322 kilometres with zero gasoline use, zero tailpipe emissions and virtually no impact on the environment. The 2-passenger, rear-wheel drive Dodge Circuit EV combines bold Dodge styling with no-compromise performance.


3) Mitsubishi iMiEV


Excellence in packaging, performance and efficiency. The Mitsubishi iMiEV seats four and has a durable 330-volt lithium-ion battery to power a 63 hp electric rechargeable motor. iMiEV can travel up to 120 kilometres on a single charge and its low centre of gravity contributes to great handling.








4) 2010 VW Golf


The sixth generation, compact hatchback VW Golf includes redesigned body elements that present a sportier and more distinctive image. Arriving this fall, the new VW Golf will come in two body styles — three-door and five-door — with a five-cylinder, 2.5-litre engine producing 170 hp.


5) 2010 Acura TSX6


Acura’s all-new V6 model for its TSX sports sedan line-up is scheduled to go on sale in late summer and will tempt youthful buyers with its 280 hp 3.5-litre V6 engine, exclusive suspension tuning, larger diameter wheels and fun-to-drive, yet refined appeal.


6) Audi A5 Cabriolet


Fan-favourite Audi continues to impress with the dynamic, confident and stunning A5 Cabriolet. Like all Audi convertibles, the open-top A5 has a lightweight fabric top that adds a silhouette of dynamic elegance. The fully automatic top opens in just 15 seconds.








7) 2010 Lexus HS250h


Lexus has created the world’s first luxury hybrid sedan, the HS250h. Affordable, efficient and featuring the first four-cylinder gas engine in a Lexus, the 2.4-litre high torque electric motor in the front-wheel-drive HS250h generates 187 hp and combines luxury and great fuel economy.


8) smart


It’s been 10 years since the crafty smart cars first hit the road in Canada. To mark the momentous occasion is the smart fortwo 10th Anniversary Edition. Known for its economical size, there’s nothing little about this car’s personality. Only 10 of them were made, all hand tailored in Germany and boasting special Arctic Grey Metallic paint and a hand-assembled interior that is trimmed in Chalet brown leather.


9) Mercedes-Benz 2010 GLK350 4MATIC


The Mercedes-Benz GLK350 4MATIC showcases a bold exterior design, generous cargo capacity and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. It’s the perfect balance of style, versatility and performance powered by a 268 hp 3.5-litre V6 engine. From its steeply raked windshield to the integrated rear spoiler on its tightly styled roof section, the bullish shape of the new GLK suggests pure power and agility.






10) BMW Z4


It’s difficult not to feel sophisticated while driving the new BMW Z4, set to make its Western Canada debut. The first roadster to be equipped with a retractable hardtop, the Z4 will be available in two engine models — sDrive30i and sDrive35i. Both offer enhanced performance, optimized efficiency and a new level of exterior and interior refinement.
