Role models step up

A group of young celebrities voluntarily took a drug test at the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame last week to support the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.

"Starstruck" survivors Mark Herras, Rainier Castillo, Mike Tan, Ryza Cenon, Iwa Moto and Prince Stefan were among those who took the test.

Other television personalities – Paulo Avelino, Kevin Santos, Gino dela Peña, Kaye Alipio and Victor Aliwalas – also trooped to Camp Crame to have the test.

"I took this test voluntarily to fully express my support to the government’s efforts in eliminating illegal drugs. Together with my fellow celebrities, we want to be ideal role models for the youth and set a positive example to them," Herras said.

He said he wants the youth to know that it is possible to have fun sans illegal drugs.

The young actor said the effort is specially important to him amid persistent rumors that he is hooked to illegal drugs. He said "once and for all" he would prove his detractors wrong.

He also urged other young actors to follow suit.

Actors Matt Evans and Rafael Rosel said they are also willing to undergo drug testing anytime.

"I don’t have any problem with drug testing but I have problems with needles. Pero it’s good benefit naman. I don’t have any problem with drug testing," Rosel said.
