The typhoon aid show recently organised by the Surrey Philippine Independence Day Society (SPIDS) raised $3,067 in cash and cheque donations and $1,925 in sponsorship for the events’ expenses.
SPIDS said the amount of donation will still increase as some more pledges and ticket sales remittance will come later this week.
The group is committed to full transparency of the total donations, and the proceeds will be divided equally to Philippine National Red Cross and ABS-CB Sagip Kapamilya Foundation. Receipts will be issued by these two organizations and will be published in local newspaper(s).
The evening included performances by Pinoy Talent Contest Teen Champion Sarah Grace Cantuba who sang the Philippine National Anthem Lupang Hinirang. The Canadian anthem was performed by 8 year old Glisha Dela Cruz.
One surprise of the night was a phone patch message from Philippine Movie Superstar Nora Aunor who greeted the crowd and encourage everyone to continue helping and sending assistance to the Philippines.
Local dignitaries attending the event inclued MP for Surrey North Donna Cadman, MP for Surrey Green Timbers Sue Hammel, and MLA for Surrey Fleetwood Jagrup Brar. Filipino Canadian MLA Mable Elmore sent a written message.
