The Presidential Task Force Against Illegal Recruitment has arrested eight people for recruiting factory workers to Canada without authorization from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). The suspects were identified as Andrea Sipagan, Arsenia Cortez, Estrella Lorenzo, Lee Alibangbang, Marivic Manvez Francisco Gabor, Mariano Santos and Josephine Canon. The suspects were involved in the operation of Lionlink Resources Services, with an office in Manila. They were arrested in an operation Feb. 3 while in the act of illegally recruiting applicants for jobs in Canada at their office. The arrests were made following a complaint from Alfred Lagmay Corbillion, Arvin Lim Sandan and Karen Daracan Dela Cruz, who said they were promised and offered employment to Canada as factory workers with a monthly salary of $3,100 each. Filipino illegal recruiters have become more active of late by offering people quick departures and easy payment schemes for Canada employment.
