The Fraser Institute issued this week its Report Card on Elementary and Secondary Schools in British Columbia. The report card is based on a number of indicators of school performance that are then combined into one score and ranking.
Catholic schools like St. Michael’s and St. Thomas More in Victoria and Burnaby respectively were again near the top of the lists.
Religious based and private schools performed the best on the list.
The indicators are measured annually and can assess each school’s performance in a year and its improvement or deterioration over time. There are seven indicators used to rate each school’s academic performance.
Performance Indicators
1. The average exam mark in the grade-10, grade-11, and grade-12 courses that include a mandatory provincial exam
2. Percentage of grade-10, grade-11, and grade-12 mandatory provincial examinations failed
3. Average difference by which the school mark exceeds the examination mark in the courses considered in (1) and (2) above
4. Difference between male and female students in their exam mark in English 10 only
5. Difference between male and female students in their exam mark in Mathematics 10 only
6. Graduation rate
7. Delayed advancement rate.
