Nissan delivers first zero-emission car to BC

Nissan Canada is introducing its new zero-emission “Leaf” car to BC at an unveiling on Thursday, October 6th in Coquitlam.
The Leaf is 100% electric and was named the 2011 World Car of the Year. It is one of the first mass-marketed all-electric cars for consumers.
The Leaf is a medium-sized hatchback with seating for five adults. It is powered by a lithium-ion battery.
It has no tailpipe, emits no CO2 emissions and has a range of 160-kilometres on one full charge providing 90% of Vancouverites with the range they need for their daily commutes. Using a 240-volt home charging dock, a full charge is completed in seven hours. With a Level 3 Quick Charger, 80% charge can be achieved in just 26 minutes.
The engine beneath the hood generates 107 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque.
Because there’s no traditional engine, Nissan LEAF is ultra-quiet and for safety reasons a sound had to be added so pedestrians could hear the car coming.
In late October, Nissan Canada will open its online reservation process for its allocation of 2012 Nissan leafs. Reservations are eligible to those registered on www.nissan.ca/leaf and living within the vicinity of the 27 EV-certified dealers across Canada.
