Surrey resident Anita Kailey, 27 is ready to take Toronto by storm this coming weekend (July 23rd) as she competes for the crown of Miss India-Canada.
Kailey, who recently took part in the Miss BC contest, will not only be representing BC but also women who were previously married and have survived a broken marriage.
Kailey was married for nine years. The experience has taught her many life lessons and she has spent the last three years rebuilding her life, and helping others also do the same.
Part of rebuilding has been opening herself to finding a wider perspective to life through spirituality. This she believes has been key to achieving greater peace and a reduction of anxiety.
“I have noted that people are too attached to materialistic things and they are very unhappy. I didn’t want that kind of a life for myself so I started to meditate,” she explained.
Since then she believes doors of opportunity have opened for her.
At 23 she started off modelling for NAP Photo studio and made connections with other artists.
She has worked in a Punjabi music video for Harbhajan Mann.
After taking a break because of personal difficulties, she has successfully finished working in a Gippy Grewal music video.
“Ever since I can remember I had a passion for acting and modelling. I love Indian cinema and I would love to work in a film.”
Along with building her career she wants to help young women build their self-esteem. Her dream is to open up a help centre where people can get help for depression and anxiety through spiritual and holistic means.
“By meditating and following the path of god, anyone can achieve true and eternal happiness. People are too busy and caught up making money. If they just take a minute and slow down to appreciate what they have, the world would not be in this condition that it is in.”
Along with a talent for modeling and acting, she has worked as a cardiology technician for five year. She believes that acting is her calling in life and wants to concentrate in that direction going forward.
