Accent reduction goes online

Vancouver based L2 Accent Reduction Centre recently launched its online program for accent reduction.
This service will allow immigrant professionals from across the globe the opportunity to learn new speech patterns to benefit their financial, interpersonal and operational abilities.
“We have heard so many client success stories, many of them improving both their working and personal lives since participating in L2’s program,” says Jennifer Madigan, Director of Learning at L2 Accent Reduction Centre. “Our online training course can be taken at a client’s convenience from anywhere around the world. It is an ideal solution for busy professionals who do not have time to make a commitment to a classroom setting.”
Using the latest technology to produce tangible, fast and long-lasting results, L2’s online program provides a number of methods for professionals to practice and hone their accents.
The program enables each client to watch instructional videos depicting various sounds before copying the instructions while watching him/herself in a web cam. Simultaneously, a flash presentation details the inside of the mouth and its movements to show how each sound is produced. Following this, the client submits a series of words and sentences that will be graded as a pass or fail before they can move on to the next section of the course.
The program is divided into three sections chosen for their relevance: Problem Consonants, Speaking Essentials and Stress and Rhythm. When all three sections are passed, graduates move to the third stage of the monitoring portion of the program using Native Accent, a nationally-renowned and praised voice recognition technology available in more than 63 languages.
Information about the program will be translated into Korean, Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, Russian and German.
