Ancient Asian medical practice takes Canada by storm

Thousands of Canadians have turned to a centuries-old device from India to protect against viruses and germs as flu season continues.
The neti pot – a small, teapot-like tool – floods the nasal passages with a warm, all-natural saline solution to relieve blockages and prevent harmful bacteria from causing infection.
“This is an effective and naturopathic way to help prevent the onset of flu viruses,” explains Dr. Heatley, an ear, nose and throat doctor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and developer of the modern neti pot, SinuCleanse. “Because viruses most commonly enter the body through the nasal passageways, mouth and throat, it’s important to take extra precautionary measures with your sinus health.”
Originally developed by yogis thousands of years ago, the device – known as ‘jala neti’ or ‘water cleansing’ in Sanskrit – was popular with practitioners who wanted to further develop their yoga abilities through deep breathing.
Its modern reinvention has led to families throughout the country introducing nasal cleansing to their daily hygiene routine. The 100 per cent natural solution treats hay fever, sinusitis and other nasal conditions while protecting against common winter illnesses.
Now in a plastic form that is durable, light and dishwasher safe, SinuCleanse can be found at many major Canadian retailers including Walmart, The Bay, Zellers, Rexall, Loblaws, Pharma Plus and Pharmasave.
