Two men convicted of killing former Filipino Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. have been released from prison after their sentences were commuted. The release of Felizardo Taran and Rolando de Guzman wasn’t opposed by former Filipino President Corazon Aquino, his wife. The assassination on Aug. 21, 1983, at the Manila International Airport resulted in several protests in The Philippines and helped bring about the 1986 ousting of Filipino dictator Ferdinand Marcos, who was replaced by Corazon Aquino.
